Customer Rating: Summary: Not Doing the Job Comment: Da Vince Code tour may not fit into the category of "Solving Da Vinci Code Mystery". It is in fact a mere tour guide for casual travellers who want to visit Europe after or before reading Da Vinci code. McKenzie travels the cities where Dan Brown's novel DA VINCI CODE used as the story's key location. Then mothing more. If you are thinking about Traveling to Paris, London, Rome may be it is another story.
Verdict: Riding the bangwagon of DA VINCI CODE
Rating: 45 out of 100 for Da Vince Code fanatics.
Recommended for: Casual travel fans whose travel in abroad is once or twice the life time events.
Customer Rating: Summary: Dissapointing Comment: This tour is not exactly about the locations of The Da Vinci Code. You will have Paris (Louvre from outside, not the Denon wing), you will have Rome, DVC locations from outside, London, you will have Scotland, not Rosalyn Chapel.Nor Milan, even though the Last Supper shows as a picture.
You will get instead also other locations, for example outdoor sculpture park close to the Louvre. The guide mentions that the sculptures are often by famous artists. She mentions only Rodin, showing signed work. Not enough effort was put in order to mention other famous artists: Giacometti and Maillol, even though they are famous and shown in this movie. The pictures by Leonardo, shown as slides, not all of them are in the Louvre. For ex. Lady with Ermine isn't not only in another museum, in another city, but also in another country.(Czartoryski Museum, Cracow, Poland).
Eating and shopping advice: You better consult a guide in a book form. But you will have interior of shop with discounted designer clothes, and short interview with the sales person. A funny part is that the guide also tries to show the self-cleaning European WC which are located on the streets.Good thing, but not for the claustrophobic, I tell you). You also will have the Versailles palace, from inside and the park. The famous hall of mirrors is shown, and the guide will even show how long it is (running), which is a good way to show the scale). You will have Montmartre, and the church (from outside, but not Saint-Sulplice). This is just as example what you can expect from this DVD.
Rome isn't very much about DVCode either. For those who travel with children, there is a nice attraction: balloon which is tied with steel ropes to the ground, so, you can raise high and admire the views without actually using balloon a s a mean of transportation. There are other attractions which I think may appeal to children and adults in this DVD,as for ex. fast train to England, or the monument to the fidel dog, and his story (in Edinburg). The daughter of the guide is there, which is very refreshing, I was tempted to rate this DVD higher because of her, but well, the DVD was supposed to be the Da Vinci Code guide.
The train to England is of course fun, and a good advice (I was delighted to travel by train in Europe, and would truly recommend it also). What is the problem about Da Vinci Code locations in London? Well, you will not really see them. Shopping: out doors, but than I wonder why in Paris the flea market wasn't mentioned? I am not flippant there, the flea market in Paris is not like FM in US, you can get very nice antiques, furniture and paintings, plus vintage clothes there, stuff which may become a true heirloom. Food advice not too good: of course visiting pubs can be a way of learning about the locals, but to recommend to eat some pizza at the food stands at the outdoor fairs is not such a secret. And also Britain has head to head competition in gourmet food with France, (bad British food times are over long time ago), so, I would think more about food would be mentioned. The theater advice is of course good,as Britain has great theaters, and why not to see something fine?
Scotland: no Rosalyn Chapel in view, another location more form outside, the dog I mentioned already as a fine attraction for children and adults, then you get an interview with a musician, pipe player, which is also good things if you travel with children. You see the Mrs McKenzie getting golf lessons, no Rosalyn Chapel in view again, and never will be even mentioned, to be exact. Also the guide rides a horse (riding lessons?) and telling that she feels as if on the fox hunt, I translate it that there is glamour in it.( I am truly happy that the fox hunt was outlawed in Britain, given the extreme cruelty of this type of hunting, comparable probably with bear bitting or other similarly bloody sport).
This is the description how the guide goes, I hope it helps. As some advice would be not bad in general, this is not a guide about the Da Vinci Code exactly, is more about the cities, and some locations viewed outside, there is a lot of other details. The title and the cover is misleading, if you expect the tour of the locations, or something more about DVC, you may be dissapointed,as I was. There is a cottage industry relating to Dan Brown, and seems that some of the people use well known titles to create sales pitches.
Customer Rating: Summary: Fraud Comment: This bit of tripe is nothing more than here old travelogues with new wrap arounds. She doesn't even include the actual sites in the movie. This is just an effort to make a quick buck without actually doing anything. I am supprised Dan Brown gave her permission to use the name of the book in the title.
Customer Rating: Summary: Non-Davinci Code Tour Comment: If you want a DVD that visits sites central to the book (ie Rosslyn Chapel, Temple Church, the Louvre's Denon Wing), look elsewhere. The focus is on touristy shopping and eating in Rome, Paris, London and Scotland with only occasional reference to the book.
