“This expensive, glossy world is where I’ve been headed all along. Limos and flowers; waxed eyebrows and designer clothes from Barneys. These are my people; this is where I’m meant to be.” –Becky Bloomwood
Universally beloved by readers, Sophie Kinsella’s national bestseller, Confessions of a Shopaholic, introduced the irrepressible one-woman shopping phenomenon, Becky Bloomwood. Now, in this hilarious follow-up, Becky and her credit cards are headed across the Atlantic....
With her shopping excesses (somewhat) in check and her career as a TV financial guru thriving, Becky’s biggest problem seems to be tearing her entrepreneur boyfriend, Luke, away from work for a romantic country weekend. And worse, figuring out how to “pack light.” But packing takes on a whole new meaning when Luke announces he’s moving to New York for business–and he asks Becky to go with him!
Before you can say “Prada sample sale,” Becky has landed in the Big Apple, home of Park Avenue penthouses and luxury department stores.
Surely it’s only a matter of time until she becomes an American TV celebrity, and she and Luke are the toast of Gotham society. Nothing can stand in their way, especially with Becky’s bills miles away in London.
But then an unexpected disaster threatens her career prospects, her relationship with Luke, and her available credit line! Shopaholic Takes Manhattan–but will she have to return it?

Customer Rating: Summary: Blabber of a Shopaholic Comment: My guess is that Sophie Kinsella had in mind a specific group of readers when she created her "Shopaholic" series. And that group does not include me.
Do you recall the girl from "American Pie" whose stories began with the now famous line "This one time, at band camp..." Well, this is what it felt like when I was reading this book. It's as if someone sat next to me and began babbling in my ear a totally meaningless, not even to mention boring, story.
It was bad enough that I had to believe that her character, who cannot even balance her checkbook, was actually a financial adviser on some TV show, but I also had a hard time pretending that this character was unique enough for me to care about her spending frenzies.
I will say that this series will make a fine sitcom, if someone comes up with punchier one-liners. So, one star for a sitcom potential and another one for the fact that this is a mindless read - which for some simply means a vacation for one's brain and that has some advantages.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great book, warm and funny companion Comment: I bought this book for my daughter who is 16 years old, after listening to Ms Kinsella at amazon.com. My daughter has cancer and has been convalescing in Houston, over the last year. She is tough. She laughs aloud as she reads this book, and she tells me that her daily plan is to go to school, do homework, read Shopaholic, go back to her studies, study her SATs, read some more Shopaholic, and chat with friends.
The magic of reading, and the magic that Ms Kinsella has poured on my daughter is unrepayable. Laughter pumps us up, and as long as my daughter is pumped up the world is a beautiful place.
Customer Rating: Summary: I'm Addicted to Shopaholic! Comment: Kinsella's most beloved character, Becky Bloomwood is back with all of her neuroses and eccentricities! Only this time, Becky gets to exhibit her penchant for the melodramtic in the Big Apple instead of London. Becky is charming and entertaining and her foibles and misteps are endearing as ever. Kinsella's writing is witty and funny.
Customer Rating: Summary: Laugh out loud funny!! Comment: It was my turn this month to pick the next book club selection and I chose this. We had read the first one last year. It is a nice diversion from some of the more serious pieces of literature we read.
I've only read the first two of the series about Rebecca Bloomwood, an obsessed shopper so much that she overlooks her debt problems and just keeps hitting those great sales, and I plan to read the entire series.
I laughed a lot reading this book. It is light reading, and her writing is very good for the genre of "chick lit".
For anyone who just wants a quick easy yet fun read, the series about Rebecca and her debt, is a great choice. She seems to come of age a bit in each one as well, however, her debt doesn't seem to change.
Worth a good laugh!!!
Customer Rating: Summary: Such fun to read. Comment: I loved this book! Such fun to read...I laughed and laughed! I kept reading snippets of it aloud to my husband! Great book to read after a hard day at work...good bedtime reading.
